A game that is tailored for you, whether you believe you're young or old.
A trivia competition testing your knowledge and strategy to win it all.
The BlockBusters Trivia Competition was conceived over a decade ago during the Holy Month of Ramadhan by a group of youth with the goal of creating a platform that allowed Muslims to continuously learn and fill the void that consisted of a lack of enthusiasm in gaining knowledge by our youth.
Our vision was to embody the message from our Holy Prophet (as) to "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave", by creating an engaging way for the members of our communities to learn from each other.
Since then, the BlockBusters Trivia Competition has become the largest of its kind in the Toronto Shi'a Community.
What is BlockBusters?
BlockBusters is a trivia game that we have adapted from the original game show created by Steve Ryan and Mark Goodson. The format involves a game board with a grid of hexagons, each representing a letter. The objective is for teams to connect their assigned side of the board by correctly answering questions corresponding to the letters on the hexagons. This involves answering questions that start with a specific letter, usually with the goal of creating a path from one side of the board to the other. Over the years, BlockBusters has become a must-have event enjoyed by Shia Muslim audiences around the world, especially at our home base, Toronto. The game's enduring popularity is often attributed to its simple yet engaging format and the thrill of strategic decision-making combined with Islamic and general knowledge questions.
How old do I have to be?
BlockBusters was conceived with the idea of allowing people of all ages to play, learn and compete together. To ensure we maximize the number of people benefitting from BlockBusters, we generally have a very inclusive competition targeting people of all ages. However, depending upon logistics and the structure of each competition, there may be age restrictions, so please read any age requirements when registering for a certain competition to see if there are restrictions in place.
What is the question format?
Whenever a team selects a hexagon letter, the answer to the question will begin with that letter. For example, if a hexagon tile with the letter A is selected, a possible question could be "What A is the name of the first Imam?" with the answer being "Ali".
How many are in a team?
To form a complete team, there must be four players at the time of registration.
